God is Closer Than You Think

July 26, 2003 (Weekend Service)

...an excerpt of this message:

"If I was going to boil down the practice of spiritual life in one single statement from Scripture, this would be it. I think this is the simplest description of spiritual life in all of the Bible.

This is Psalm 16:8. Let's read these words together. "I have set the Lord always before me." I'll just pause a moment to ask you: Have you ever considered doing that? You can. Of course you'll forget and fail a ton, but then you just come back to it. Have you ever made the decision? That's the way I want to live. "I will set the Lord always before me." That is the issue in spiritual life.

When I do that, there are certain thoughts that are characteristic of God. When these thoughts are present, there's a real good chance that they are the result of God's walking alongside of me, God's being with me. What I want to do is to walk through these kinds of thoughts that God will bring into your life, so that you can recognize them when they come. Then you can begin, if you want to, to set God always before you. We'll go through four categories of thoughts
