What Jesus Would Say To...: Timothy McVeigh
July 12, 1997 (Weekend Service)
When we remember crimes like the Oklahoma City bombing, something inside of us calls out for justice. Someday, God will rightfully require Timothy McVeigh to atone for his unspeakable crime. That is, unless he listens to and acts upon the words of Jesus. If Jesus were to say something to Timothy McVeigh, he might say, "Tim, you need to know that even for someone like you, I am the God of hope. I can offer the hope of forgiveness regardless of the severity of your sin." Nothing exceeds the ability and desire of Jesus to forgive. If you want to experience this forgiveness, be honest with yourself and admit your sin. Abandon your pattern of wrongdoing and accept the gift of God.
