Becoming Fully Devoted Followers: Part 4
December 19, 1998 (Weekend Service)
In this message, we find that people, by human nature, are "clutchers more than relinquishers." That means we are more likely to scrape and claw, work and fret to get anywhere, to get ahead. Jesus was a relinquisher. He took a demotion to become human and a bond servant to all. He humbled himself to the point of death, and not just any death, but death by crucifixion. He did all this in order to be obedient to the Father. And because of all his relinquishments, he is now exalted. To follow Jesus' example of joyful relinquishments is a fully devoted follower's calling. We don't necessarily have to do just what Jesus did, but we should know that like Jesus, being obedient to the Father will benefit us in the long run.
