Money, Sex, And Power: Sex
January 23, 1999 (Weekend Service)
The Bible is quite clear on the issue of sex. Produced by God, it is a good thing, that enhances intimacy in a marriage. But if it such a great intimacy producer, why are there so many restrictions on it? Sex is a reflection of our existence as unending spiritual beings. Sharing that existence with another person is powerful. That's why it is reserved for marriage. In sex, couples are the most vulnerable with each other. That's why affairs are very destructive; they are the ultimate betrayal of trust. So why should unmarried people pay the price and make the effort of sexual purity? The Bible says that while sexuality is essential to one's identity, sexual activity is not essential to that identity, an idea contrary to what our society promotes.
