Doing One Thing Well

December 30, 2000 (Weekend Service)

When people make New Year’s resolutions, they usually end up with a number of things in their lives they would like to improve. What if there was only one thing in our lives we could do really well? What would it be? The Apostle Paul says the one thing he would want to do well is to know Christ. And how is that done? In essence, Paul says it is to focus on Jesus and “forgetting what lies behind.” That means forgiving others and forgetting our past mistakes. By not forgetting our “forgettable” past, we are allowing our thoughts to be on ourselves and not on the one thing we should do well, getting to know Jesus.
