Early on in the life of Willow Creek Community Church, people learned what it meant to be a servant: "to be great in God's eyes, we must learn how to serve the Father and serve others." Learning to be a servant became a main theme of the church. However, it is also important to learn how God wired us up to serve. Thus, we must learn our spiritual gifts in order that we serve more effectively. Serving in the area of most effectiveness is still not enough; God developed in us a "passion" in our place of our best service. Knowing to serve, knowing where to serve and knowing the passion of our service can make us great in God's eyes.
