Building Compassionate Hearts
June 3, 2000 (Weekend Service)
The ultimate test of a transformed life is a compassionate heart. When we extend our hand to others, we extend our hand to Christ. The Apostle John puts it like this: "If anyone does not love their brother or sister whom they have seen, they cannot love God whom they have not seen. If anyone says that they love God, but they do not love their brother or sister, they are a liar." A great sermon, a good book, or a powerful film will not give us the desire to have compassionate hearts. Only through real life experiences will we seize the vision and immerse ourselves into helping others compassionately. And in order to have real life experiences, we must get out of the house. If we never stop focusing on our own comfort and success, we will regret not being compassionate people for eternity.
