Tools For The New Millenium: The Palm Pilot

January 15, 2000 (Weekend Service)

In our fast-tracked, fast food, and fast-paced culture, time has become our most precious commodity. When we mismanage certain areas of our lives, we begin to live in crisis mode. It's not inappropriate to have our RPMs running a little too high every once in a while, but it's when we redline permanently that we begin to lead unhealthy lives. Skimming becomes the standard when the pace of life overwhelms us. We start to skim relationally. A once deep and intimate marriage becomes increasingly superficial and shallow because the time and energy required for intimacy cannot be spared. Our emotional lives are also set aside. Pain is ignored, grief is not processed, and friendships become less important, resulting in loss of accountability. If we're redlining, we deplete spiritually by not slowing down long enough to worship or read God's Word, and less and less time is spent being fed by the Christian community. Where in your life have you been redlining? Maybe you need to take on less responsibility or need to find more room for recreation in your life. It could be that you need to develop some relationships in your life that are not draining emotionally. Find new friends who can replenish you and minister to your soul. If you cannot learn how to control your pace of life, the rate at which you're working will destroy all that you have been working for.
