Seasons of the Soul: Winter
February 10, 2001 (Weekend Service)
Spiritual winter is that in-between time when something is lost or dead, you know it may never return, but nothing new has arisen yet to take its place. It is a time when health, relationships, family, and reputation feel like they are one cold puff away from non-existence. God seems far away and there is a strong temptation to isolate yourself from others and go into spiritual hibernation. Don't fool yourself into believing that you can avoid spiritual winters. They are inevitable. Jesus himself said, "In this world you will have tribulation." So, prepare yourself and don't do winter alone. Find people to help you through times of shame, sadness, and failure. And remember, every season ends. Take hope that God will guide you through winter, grow you, and bring into the new beginnings of springtime stronger than ever.
