We all have misconceptions of who Jesus is. Some of us picture him as a melancholy man in a white robe, others think of him as a superhero action-figure, and some of us think of him as a friend, a buddy. Jesus was, in fact, a Jewish leader, a rabbi, with great authority. Jesus was homeless. He walked among us and he healed people. Jesus did, and does, outrageous things to awaken people’s hearts to the possibility of a relationship and a life with God. One of the most important things Jesus said was, “Follow Me.” Jesus beckons us to follow Him back to the Father, to the poor, the overlooked, and the marginalized in our society, and to the cross—to receive His forgiveness, healing, and hope.
