Description
Is there a place for me? At your table? Is there a place for me? These are the questions posed in the scene First Five. A narrator enters and asks, "Who would be the first five people you would invite to a dinner party?" Then she turns that question around. "Who are the first five people you do not want at your table? What if they were the first five to the table?"
The hostess enters and as she sets the table for her party, she speaks to five different personalities in her life. People she knows who make it impossible to invite to the table. How could she invite the criminal? The person who she has wounded and won't forgive her? The person who has broken her? The person who has judged her unfairly? As she speaks another actor poetically interrupts her and challenges her. "Is there a place for me? At your table?" In the end the hostess agrees to invite the uninvitable, to make room at her table. No matter how difficult. The narrator returns and speaks of a world where we love as freely as Jesus loved. As she speaks, we watch the table fill with additional actors. Paired with Nicole Nordeman's song Please Come, this piece presents the challenges and love that is necessary if we are to expand the table. We are reminded to love as Jesus loved, as senselessly as he loved. The table must be filled. Bible References: Galatians 5:6-, Micah 6:8-, 1 John 4:-, 2 Corinthians 5:- International Customers
