Meeting the needs of the poor and the hurting should not be done just to make the giver or the doer feel good, but it should be done in a way that empowers the recipient and that affirms their dignity as someone created in the image of God. There are many creative ways those with resources and skills can build into a person by teaching them and encouraging them in the learning skills that help them meet their and their family's needs. Christ-followers need to open themselves to accepting the challenges of God to think biblically about providing opportunities for the poor in ways that help them develop into the people God has called them to be.
