Old Testament Challenge: Solomon - Extreme Wisdom |
Series Description: The goal of the Old Testament Challenge is to help you better understand the Bible and become a more fully devoted follower of Jesus. Be very active as you read the Bible – mark it up: ask questions, note commands, look for indications of the character of God, pay close attention to passages that have special meaning to you – and think of the Bible as a love letter from God to you.
Service Description: The Nation's Golden Era, Part 1
When Solomon inherited the throne, he made a request for wisdom so that he would be able to rule over God’s great nation. God answered his prayer in a wonderful way. Solomon’s wisdom not only led Israel to its golden era, much of it remains for us today in the book of Proverbs. This treasure of practical wisdom has enabled God’s people to make wise decisions about many areas of their lives—from relationships, to money, to speech, to leadership—just to name a few. Proverbs is a unique book because though it comes to us inspired by God, a proverb is not an absolute inflexible law, but more of a general observation about the way things are. Therefore we must interpret a proverb with wisdom, and apply the verse carefully. In living these truths, we avoid the folly that has ruined many a life and experience the benefits of God’s wisdom.
