The massive, 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti near the capital of Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, January 12th caused extensive damage. Haitian authorities believe 140,000 people died in the earthquake and that three-quarters of the capital, Port-au-Prince, would need to be rebuilt. Make a donation to Haiti's disaster relief efforts by contributing online to one of these organizations.

Providing Immediate Relief to the People of Haiti.

Leaders from Compassion International, the world's largest child development organization, are on the ground in Haiti working to provide much needed food, water and shelter for families and children. We are assessing the needs of the community with our local church partners in order to effectively respond and equipping our church partners with necessary resources to reach out to those in need. In the long-term we will work to rebuild the churches that were destroyed and homes of Compassion children.

What Church Leaders Can Do

Mobilize your church to pray for the churches and children affected. Please pray for our staff, some of whom are unaccounted for.
Donate toward relief efforts. We will make sure the funds are put to use as soon as is feasible for the children and churches in the areas affected.
Ask your church to participate in a special offering designated to Haiti.

Working in Haiti since 1968, Compassion currently has 230 child development centers in Haiti that serve more than 64,000 children, many in and around Port-au-Prince.

World Vision mobilizes aid effort in Haiti.

World Vision commenced emergency relief operations in Port-au-Prince, Haiti's devastated capital city, with distributions of essential medical supplies to city hospitals. The distributions began on Wednesday, the day after the quake, and continued on Thursday, despite World Vision's own offices suffering heavy quake damage -- the worst to hit Haiti in 200 years.

The GLS in Haiti

In Haiti, the Global Leadership Summit attracts church, business, and government leaders to learn about godly leadership principles and then invites them to discuss how to make changes in their country. In 2009 some 250 leaders attended the GLS in Haiti.

Without effective leaders, no improvements to daily Haitian life will ever be imagined and implemented. Without godly leadership, there is no base on which to make moral judgments. Haiti's poverty is the result of a leadership crisis.

The GLS is focused on identifying and equipping the leaders of Haiti because everything rises and falls on leadership. These leaders in Haiti want to make a difference and deeply believe, with God's help, they can and must make a difference. Community Covenant Church in Rehoboth, MA is helping to create a climate in which Haitian leaders can address and solve the problems in their country.
