Welcome to the First Edition of the 2007 Summit E-Newsletter!

We’re thrilled to offer this inside look at The Leadership Summit 2007 as we prepare to gather together with an expected 80,000 leaders worldwide. We’re working to provide a welcoming, challenging place to develop the leadership gifts God has given. This August, the speakers, programming, and resources will help guide your church and community to the next level with the skills to take action, the inspiration to keep growing, and the vision to transform your world! This year’s theme challenges leaders to get into the game now. Tomorrow is too late. Today is the time to engage your leadership gifts. Each of us must answer our call to lead … where we are … right now.

The Call to Responsibility

Rev. Floyd H. Flake

In 1976, Floyd H. Flake left his job to pastor a traditional church surrounded by a community in decline. The church had every opportunity to make a profound impact outside its walls, but an insular mindset had kept outreach to a minimum. Flake wanted to change that mindset, and he did. Watch this message from Rev. Flake about the challenges of leading to change lives.

Character, Caliber, Collaboration

from Tough Choices by Carly Fiorina

"I have believed all my life that leadership has nothing to do with title or position. Leadership is about making a positive difference for and with others. Leadership is about the integrity of one’s character, the caliber of one’s capabilities, and the effectiveness of one’s collaboration with others. Anyone can lead from anywhere at any time."

From Fairfield County, Connecticut to Bergen County, New Jersey with Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn in between, the team interacted with more than 1,000 people in just two days.

Holy Discontent by Bill Hybels—Order Today

What is the one aspect of this broken world that, when you see it, touch it, get near it, you just can’t stand? Very likely, that firestorm of frustration reflects your holy discontent, a reality so troubling that you are thrust off the couch and into the game. It’s during these defining times when your eyes open to the needs surrounding you and your heart hungers to respond that you hear God say, “I feel the same way about this problem. Now, let’s go solve it together!” In his upcoming release, Bill Hybels invites you to consider the dramatic impact your life will have when you allow your holy discontent to fuel instead of frustrate you.

For more than a decade, the Summit has provided leaders an annual infusion of inspiration to bolster their ministry year. This significant impact would not be possible without the experts assembled to creatively communicate the stories and challenges of leading in the local church. Stay tuned next month for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes peek into the "making of" from the Summit’s Executive Director, Corinne Ferguson, and her team.
