1. How many people do I need to do this service?

The number of people you use in this service depends on how you choose to utilize it. For the full live production, you will need 13 male actors, and 4 narrators (1 female, 3 male) as well as a variety of volunteers or staff with technical, musical, creative, organizational, leadership, and helping skills. If you choose not to use live actors, see the next question (#2) for help.

2. What if I don't have enough actors or volunteers? Can I still do this service?

Yes you can! You can do a version of this service that walks the audience through the story using the narration and script. If you don't have the actors or the facility/stage for such a service, you can use the images provided as your "portraits", and project them onto a screen. The audience can still experience a powerful service as they listen to the story and see the images projected. See ideas for further adaptations in the Detailed Description page of the product under "ADAPTED PRODUCTION".

3. What is the power point presentation for?

Throughout the script you will notice directions that say "TEXT PROJECTED ON FRONT OF SCRIM". The power point presentation consists of slides corresponding to that text. You can project them on the scrim, or if you are not using one, you can project them onto a screen. There are also jpegs of each slide provided if that works better with your equipment. NOTE: If you do not have the font called "dirty headline" on your computer, click here to download it. (Click here for additional help on how to install a font.)

4. How do I use the graphics you provided?

There are 4 total graphics provided in this product for you to use as images in posters, bulletins, brochures, on the web, or in any other printed materials. They are provided in the jpeg format which can be used in Adobe Photoshop, Power Point or other graphic design software. Add your own church name, dates, or any other information you want to communicate. We would recommend using these if you have staff/volunteers with basic graphic design skills.

7. How do I obtain copyright permissions to use the soundtrack from "The Passion of the Christ" movie in my service?

There are multiple ways you can add music to this service.

  • If you want to perform the music from the movie using your own musicians: You would just purchase the charts from somewhere like www.sheetmusicdigital.com.
  • If you want to create the charts yourself, then you need permission from the music publisher. Look up the specific song in ASCAP and contact that publisher for permission to make an arrangement of the song(s).
  • If you would like to play the actual CD in your service you can do that without permission; HOWEVER you cannot sync it with any video or recorded piece.
  • If you would like the CD to be played during walk in or walk out of your service you would need the Performance Rights Licenses.
  • If you want to use the CD in any other way (synched to video, etc.) you must contact the record label (in this case Sony Classical).

8. If I chose to do the live performance, how do I get costumes and props?

The costumes and props are critical to the authenticity of the portrait. The audience should be able to immediately recognize Jesus, Pilate, Judas, etc. In the Willow Creek service, the actors were all situated behind a scrim and given special lighting to make them appear as if in a photo or painting. Dazian Fabrics and Rose Brand are two suggestions of places to purchase a scrim. Here are some additional websites that might be helpful regarding use of a scrim: Studio Productions, Inc., eHow, Live Design Online, and Church Media. We used many volunteers including seamstresses, woodworkers, artists, and others to gather the props, build the set, and make the costumes. For further information and ideas, or to hire a seamstress (for churches in the Willow Creek area) you can contact Kathy Skoby at katsby1@yahoo.com. For a visual reference and for costume ideas, see the images of each scene included in this product. Another suggestion (one that Willow used in helping with costume ideas) is the Mel Gibson movie, "The Passion of the Christ".
